Percussion and dance workshop in Mali/West Africa
with Sidiki Camara (drums), Brahima Coulibaly (dance) and The National Ballet of Mail
Between 3 January - 28 january 2011
2 levels for the drum classes:
beginner/intermediate (2,5 h every day)
advanced (3,5 h every day)
1 level for the dance class (4h every day)

Saturday and sunday no classes are given, free time to your disposal.
First week:
During the first week, we stay in Bamako, the capital of Mali. Classes will be dedicated to the chosen discipline (drum or dance). The hours of the classes will be sceduled, with everybody’s agreement and might move because of local festivities or sudden events, or climate difficulties.
Second week:
We will be traveling inside the country: a trip of 5 to 6 days are sceduled in my village Sanankoroba in Wassolon for a deeper experience of Manding by its most ancient area. I want to show you my culture and our traditions. Here you will experience real village life without electricity: sleep in traditional houses, dance and play under the trees, participate in village life.
Third week:
Back in Bamako, classes continue but we will have an exhange of teachers: the drumming students will experience learning with another teacher coming from the national ballet of Mali, while the dancing students will follow their program.
Forth week: extension of the program:
On demand, students can extend their program in the chosen discipline.
Drum classes are taught by Sidiki Camara:
Considered as one of the main musicians of the traditional and modern Malian music.
More than 20 years of experience in teaching, recording and performance with the greatest African artists such as: The National Ballet of Mali, Toumani Diabate, Mamady Keita, Rokia Traore, also international like Bill Frisell…
By his musicality and pedagogy he is one of the best teachers and representers of the Manding.
The Dancers of the National Ballet of Mali:
Give the dance classes, they are experienced in knowledge, performance and pedagogy and they will develope your talent to its highest level.
The meals:
Authentic African cooking based on rice and sauce, with salads and fruits as starters and desserts.
Performances:
For your pleasure and cultural experience, we organice some drumming and melodic shows given by national and local ballets and groups.
Vaccination:
The vaccination book is required to enter the country.

Price of workshop includes:
The classes, the accomodation, 3 meals a day, the trip to the willage (according to your program). You pay for the workshop when you arrive in Bamako.

3 weeks program: 850 Euro
On demand: 4 weeks program: 950 Euro
